I think we would clear up about $8 mil net in doing so. Don't know if the Browns would unless Tru was willing to sign longterm with them since Williams is their DC. Could make sense. Looks like Haden will become a FA next year....could make sense for both teams.
I don't want Aaron's contract issue to drag out into camp. That's the last thing we need.

Donald will be signed to a long term deal during training camp.

At this point, it very unlikely that the Rams are going to trade Tru. He's going to want to test free agency after the season.

Haden doesn't make that much less than Tru this season (17 M. vs. 14 M). Then, the Rams would be on the hook for a lot of money in '18, an '19. Trading for Haden would give the Rams slightly more cap space this season, but it would hurt their cap over the next two seasons.

They don't need 2017 cap space to sign Donald. They just need 2018 cap space, which they have. All they have to do is park a large guaranteed amount in the 2018 cap (like salary and a roster bonus) and that way AD gets his money either way while the Rams don't have to mess around with the 2017 cap.

No way Tru gets traded now, only hope is that a playoff team thinks he could be the missing piece around the trade deadline, then maybe we get a biscuit

On a side note, I find it quite remarkable that Cleveland didn't come after any of our defensive players, Miami took a couple. Either Williams doesn't have a say or he didn't feel it necessary to bring anyone with him

Exatly. We probably loose Tru, not AD.
I hope Tru proves his desire to "play in LA" in '18.

We have the cap space for Donald in 18, heck take Tru's cap number in 17 and give it to Donald in 18. You add Tru's number in 17 to Donald's 17 cap number and you got 20M.

Donald just can't be given a raise in 17, but guaranteed money in 18 and 19 can alleviate that

Exactly. With none of the Rams contracts being back loaded, we're in great cap shape going forward...

Well he can get more money in 17 though. His cap hit in 17 is 3.2+ M. Let's say he signs a 6 year deal. As part of that deal, you can give him a 19.2 M pro-rated signing bonus. You then convert the 3.2 M for 17 into a hit for the signing bonus. Rams keep the 17 hit down to 3.2 M, pro-rate the rest against each following cap year, and meanwhile AD gets 19 M dollars in 17.

Just a thing they could do.
